Upcoming Events

 May 1st 2024 @7PM

The much anticipated implementation of the Pitt Meadows Regional Airport's new VFR Arrival and Departure Routes is / are imminent. This alteration in the Aviation Control Zone at YPK will change just about everything for 100 % of  Pilots who use Pitt Meadows as their Base of Operations.  Additionally, these changes will place a heavy demand on local Training Programs as well as impacting those who have become comfortable with their usual Flights of Fancy as "weekend warriors"!

Attend the meeting with a vision for the future at YPK and learn how these Airspace call up points may be prepared for and negotiated with you as PIC in mind.  The New VTA has been published.  Your Old One is..."well...old" and is illegal to carry in the cockpit.  Copies are available at Steve's Classic Aviation in the Terminal Building.  Get yours and avoid being found remiss at the next TC Ramp check.

I never heard of "Abernathy" before...have you?  Let's meet on Wednesday and help each other understand these new and demanding call up points.

Stay tuned for some SPECIAL video presentations with the intention of involving You, the Membership, in a Post Mortem commentary that should act as both a wake up call for each and everyone of us as well as reviewing common mistakes that,...well if they haven't gotten you yet...are looming somewhere in the ether.

At the Aero Club's April General Meeting...

Mike Butorac treated us to a video of stunning air to air photography that was taken at the Abbotsford Airshow in 2023. Aircraft included Mike’s own RV-9A, and many Canadian and US Forces vintage fighters.

Eddie Gonzalez wowed us with pictures he captured from the flight deck over the past few years whilst flying for some of Mexico’s most well known airlines. The standout photos were of a super rare phenomenon called Diffuse Sky Radiation he caught over Oregon one night.

NOTAM:

Take a couple of hours out of your busy schedule and attend this Month's ACBC Meeting, November 1st, 2023 and revitalize your interests in Aviation through the escapades of our Guest Speaker, Mr. Tim Cole.

Tim Cole is a long time bush pilot with an Aviation history that spans early times, flying such classics as the DC-3 and acting as Chief Pilot working with Laurentian Air Services, "one of the oldest and most respected Aviation Companies in Canada while on his journey from bush pilot to Regional Airline Captain"...in and out of grass and gravel strips, floats and skis, multi engine IFR and Instructor, this guy has done it all!

Curiously, the literature written about him mentions that all of this was..."followed by 31 years “flying for the Queen” including a period on the “dark side” in enforcement....".  Wanna know more?  Me too!

Let's honour this Pilot's pilot and take in an evening with one of Canada's tried and true...be ready to buy his book, https://tinyurl.com/Tight-Floats-and-tailwind

if there are some still available.

The evening will be full of surprises of historical relevance to the Club and a moment to remember that will touch everyone's hearts.  See you there.

7:00 p.m. November 1st, 2023.

Agenda May 3rd 2023 @7PM

It seems as though Spring has finally arrived in the Lower Mainland...although most high altitude Lakes such as Widgeon,  Fire and Thomas are still frozen and snow covered, it will not be long before the Float Flyers start coming out of  their winter lairs and prep for a Summer of fun and excitement.

What better emissary could there be than Luciano Nisi, Float Plane enthusiast and expert on all things related.

Come on out to the next ACBC meeting on May 3rd, for an evening of fun and entertainment with a focus on  Float flying in and around the local "water" environment.  Couple this with a lot of information on Safety and Security and you have a night of Education with a flair for excellence.

The enthusiasm generated from our February presentation on The Concorde, inspired YPK RV 9 Pilot Mike Butorac to action.  We have invited Mike as a Guest to the next meeting of the Aero Club to demonstrate to us "Aviation fanatics" a manner in which we might still be in a position "to experience flying the Concorde from both the cabin and cockpit".

If that is not enough, Mike is going to share with us his experiences photographing an exciting array of Aircraft from "exotic warbirds like the Spitfire and Hurricane, helicopters, piston aerobatic teams, to fast jets like the F-16 and F-35".

Mike and I have been friends since he obtained his Private Pilot Licence from Pacific Rim and purchased his Dream Plane.  He is a veteran of the YVR IT Team responsible for some of the major growth at Vancouver's International and comes to us with a night to remember.
